Mir Ahmad Joyenda was born in Kabul and received his master’s degree in Archeology at the Allahabad University, India. After graduation, Mr. Ahmad Joyenda worked at Kabul University throughout the tumultuous 1980’s. He has served as the Director of Foundation for Culture and Civil Society (FCCS) and worked with the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU) as a Deputy Director. In 2005, he ran for parliament as an independent candidate collecting 3,105 votes (0.8%), eventually taking a seat in the Wolesi Jirga’s Government Affairs Committee. Mr. Ahmad Joyenda is also a former member of the Wolesi Jirga in Kabul Province.
Mr. Ahmad Joyenda is still involved as a Chairman with the FCCS, which is an independent, non-political NGO that promotes Afghan films, poetry, music and other cultural activities. The foundation is currently funded by the World Bank but is seeking alternative funding.
