EQUALITY for Peace and Democracy (EPD) has developed a training guide to help local communities monitor the quality and performance of service delivery. EPD’s curriculum consists of four major themes which are anti-corruption work, good governance, national budget processes, and community-based monitoring mechanisms.
EPD also delivered trainings on the same topics for 140 youths in Kabul, Nangarhar, Bamyan and Herat. A documentary about combating corruption called “It is our Money, Where has it gone?” was screened to a total of 8,149 community members in these provinces. In addition, EPD also conducted two rounds of training to train seventeen EPD employees, covering both Kabul and provincial staff including field coordinators, program officers and other staff.
The training guides and the trainings provided the community leaders with the indispensable tools to monitor and influence government policy-making and budgeting at the local level. Also, the documentary screenings and subsequent discussions raised awareness among a wider audience.
