Training sessions were provided to all female members of the Provincial Councils in five zones of Afghanistan. The sessions were focused on legislative drafting skills, gender responsive budgeting and conflict resolution. A negotiation expert from Indonesia was invited to facilitate the training sessions. In addition, a series of networking sessions with women’s rights activists and policy-makers were organized which she supervised.
As a result of the projects’ activities, the Provincial Council members received the necessary skills to integrate gender issues into the budget processes, to identify and address local conflicts and to effectively draft legislation. The members also created crucial linkages between women’s advocates and policy-makers to better address women’s issues.
