The prevalence of corruption among politicians and government leaders in Afghanistan has created a trust deficit between the people and their representatives. In order to fill the gap between the public and their representatives, EQUALITY for Peace and Development has carried out a research to understand different aspects of corrupt behavior prevalent among male and female members of parliament and also to assess the institutional and socio-cultural factors impeding women\u2019s effective participation in political decision-making. It is worth mentioning that around half of parliament members (MPs) were surveyed and the report includes important topics such as women\u2019s political participation, barriers that limit women\u2019s participation, legal and electoral framework as well as issues related to corruption. The report is available in <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gender-governance-and-corruption_English.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">English<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gender-governance-and-corruption_Dari.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dari<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gender-governance-and-corruption_Pashtu.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Pashtu<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Based on the finding of this research, a manual was developed which beside the main<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/websit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3228\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/websit-1000x750.jpg\" alt=\"websit\" width=\"296\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/websit-1000x750.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/websit.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a> findings of the research includes advocacy components on how to enhance more interaction between the politicians and people. \u00a0EPD has organized the second round of its workshop on the aforementioned manual on 7<sup>th<\/sup> of August 2016 aiming to promote women\u2019s political participation. The workshop lasted for two days and presented the main findings of the research as well as skills for more involvement in the community and engaging with people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3238\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/web-1000x750.jpg\" alt=\"web\" width=\"325\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/web-1000x750.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.epd-afg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/web.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a>The workshop was conducted in Kabul. A number of Kabul provincial members and the possible candidates of the upcoming elections were invited. During the workshop presentations and group discussions were facilitated and the attendees actively participated in the program. They appreciated the research report and shared their ideas regarding communication with people.\u00a0 The participants also emphasized that the people\u2019s support is a key to the success of politicians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Similar programs will be implemented in 6 other provinces of Herat, Nangarhar, Bamyan, Kunduz, Faryab and Kandahar aiming to foster the support and involvement of women in policymaking in Afghanistan.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Corruption is a serious barrier in the way of effective governance.
